finally my chromogynos spawned, have at least two females holding. this is my third try with this species.

I was growing out 14 in a 55g. the males were becoming mature and started really getting mean. i threw in larger acei to spread out aggression, it did not work. i lost one female. so last weekend i moved some fish around and got them into a 125g. It has sand, rocks piles, and larger clay pots.

on tues last week i did a large water change and wens i saw females holding. i saw a couple more nice and fat so hopefully next weekend i will pull out 3-4 females. I have been waiting to get some good babies from these guys.

No luck yet still with the piceatus. But i got plenty babies from everyone else.

I just put one of my P. chromogynos into my new fry/holding tanks as she is holding also...my species tank setup is similar to yours Dreday...125G, sand, rock piles, good water changes...they seem to be happy and I'm finally figuring out how to get my females out successfully.

Congrats :D

i stripped 7 matumbi hunters today, got about 80 fry i think. half wigglers and half tumbling still.

i also stripped 3 pund. macrocephala, all eggs. tumbling those as well.

Just checked her this morning and there were eggs in the tank...she spit...not sure if she spit them all so I'll wait and give her a day or two...I'm so disappointed ... they were big ... I saw about 9 of them

I had one of my chromogynos holding too and made the mistake of trying to move her... she spit all her eggs... won't do that again. I'll wait until she's close to the eggs being fry before moving her. I have had 3 Ps. Demasoni spawn successfully, but it does seem like these guys are like rabbits as no sooner did I put the females back in the tank they are spawning again. One of my Neochromis Omnicaeruleus is holding... NOT touching her until close to when the fry are ready. :) No more moving them early. LOL. Cross your fingers for me. I do have 2 Ps. ACEI holding as well. I think that's all.

if you leave them be with the eggs they usually pick them back up. it is better for them to spit and run then to eat them and hide.

i have even had other females pick up eggs that one female dropped, as long as they fit in their mouth.

I stripped some fish today. 10 acei ngara, 1 tri color fulu, and one chromogynos. I saw at least 2 holding the other day and thought i saw more today.

I guess i was wrong or going in after them spoke them in to eating or spitting the eggs. I do try to catch the females to move them into new tanks when they first hold but with only one female holding and the eggs were wiggling i decided to strip this time. About 20 fry in that clutch.

the tri colors seem to be slowing down again, just about same time as last year. the acei are always going strong. they never stop spawning...

another spawn, but this time orange chromides. It is the second spawn, the first one i have about 50 little fry swimming around. the other clutch was just ***** yesterday.

they are really cool fish and i am hoping to get a couple pairs going. i have 8 fish right now with at least one pair. i will be moving some around next week. next on my list is neo. cylindricus. They are close to maturity, so hopefully i will have some pairs in the next month or so.

oh and i did have a saulosi spit about 20 fish yesterday. I have a reverse trio and this is the first spawn. i will be growing these up and getting a breeding colony started. this fish seems to be in high demand as well.

Cool, Dre! I would also love to see some of those. I think the Saulosi are in very high demand, they are just beautiful. So far my Tri color fulu is still holding. I'm just watching... :)
