I have a Makobe Is. juvenile male that is causing me some concern.

He was one of the two fish that had the black upper lip...which is now completely gone. His behavior is very strange? The fish looks completely healthy but he does not eat from day to day. Yesterday, he was right there with the rest of the gang at the time of feeding, yet did not eat. The day before, he vigoriously ate? He also from time to time swims a little funny, with either his head down or up slightly. He's always looked a little funny too, his head being large, not in proportion to his body. I observed him very closely after he didn't eat yesterday and he seemed to be fine, flarring at a couple of his tankmates and swimminng without a care in the world? He has his own little spot in the tank which he defends. He does appear stressed the last couple of days and there doesn't seem to be any conflict with any other fish in the tank with him. He was showing some signs of stress when his lip was darkened.

I hate to fish him out of there and place him in the QT tank but I want to hear some opinions from you experts out there. Every fish I keep, even the ugly ducklings like him mean something to me.....so I might being worring about nothing?

Appreciate your input and suggestions....

If you think that something is wrong I would pull it out to be sure. I just learned my lesson and lost 6 F1 Brundi Frontosa b/c I ignored little signs like this.

K,

Thank you for the quick reply.

Through experience, my #1 rule with fish keeping is that if a fish doesn't eat, you have a problem. This one is just an enigma to me as he is not exhibiting all the "signs" of a fish with a problem.

Going to tear all the decor out when I get home to catch him.

I'm just so meticulous when it comes to my fish....I wouldn't have started this thread except that I most of the time over react to the situation.

P.S. Very sorry to hear about the loss of your Fronts.

I'm with KMX, although the behavior sounds allot like a female holding. You sure he isn't a she?

Well now, maybe you opened a new can of worms......The fish has egg spots and acts like a male....and it's certainly not holding any eggs...at least that I can see.

Going to fish him out no matter what, then in the 15g, I will be able to get a good look at him with a magnifying glass.

Not the best picture but here he is:

Nice fish! Is that a tube down! JK, though my eye was caught by it. I hope whatever the issue is it all works out Pantera. I know the worries of carrying about each and every fish all too well. Just ask my convicts!!

I am the same way, if they aren't eating something is wrong. I was just going to say the same thing, the tube looks down.

Well, I pulled the Makobe....turned on the lights and looked at him real close with the magnifying glass. He looks fine, seems happy exploring the new surroundings.

He still didn't eat?

Yep, it does appear in that picture that the tube is a little extended. He looked completely normal, especially around the "privates" last night.

I gave him a little salt bath last night...only thing I could think of. I'll see if he eats later today.
