Axel and I have been emailing each other for the last week. This is the confirm list of Vic's they have. We are making a deadline for the order for late Dec. They will need to know what we want so they can breed some of them. We have pushed the shipping date back to April or May, in order to this.

We are also looking at when you order a species the minimum should be 12 to 15 to get a good breeding colony. I will have prices soon. Shipping across the pond is not cheap.

Members also need to realize if we have to reship the fish after they come in it will be a added expense.

1 euro = $1.41

Here is a link to help convert the euro to USD.

very nice. the list got larger.

jim can you change one of my choices, from ishameal to pun. macro. it was not there before and i would like that fish instead.

also anyone who is going to do this be prepared to pay before the shipment is sent. we would hate to have people not pay for any reason and have to split up more costs. when we get everything finalized we will send out some invoices.

right now by my count there is 28 species selected. with the minimum of 12 per species thats 336 fish. thats a lot of fish!!!

granted though there may not be enough of each species to go around. some tough choices will have to be made. this will come into play once the final deadline is put in.

and dont forget if you give up a species i hope that someone who got them will send some fry your way when they get some. that is the idea of this whole project. to share the fish and keep them as they are.

we would also like to keep a nice chart of where the fish came from and where they go. so we can track the history and linage. good times..... ;)

BOTH Allan and Amor are both getting Chilotes, so you can take that off my list, no sense in 3 of us getting the same fish.
We are in the same general location anyway.

Maybe they each can give me a couple to make up at least a trio.

You should put a date requested, that way there is a priority system.

Not quite fair if someone requests 10 types, and another person requests only 1 type, yet the other person gets it.

I do think the goal should be to get as many types in, so hopefully people won't all pick the same things.

maybe we can have a Draft like the NFL, something like I suggested in the beginning of this forum.
Draft your fish, then have a certain time to submit your deposit.

No deposit, then figure out a way to assign that species to someone else.

Agreed, there needs to be a system here.

We could do the draft.
have some kind of party, web cam the draft on yahoo.
have it on chat, youtube it, etc.

Every person gets a ping pong ball.
then its a random draft.

take each ball out, till they are all gone, boom thats the first round, one pick each round.

people could trade positions if they wanted, say a number 1 pick for round 2 and 3.

for round 2, start the draft all over again with the set off ping pong balls.
some of us only want one fish, so we can either end it there by not having another ball submitted, or we can keep the ball in, and trade away the pick.

could be a fun draft party.

but doing it by draft or priority by submission/request date, some kind of fair system needs to be constructed.

Otherwise, one person could end up getting the best looking or rarest or most in demand fish.

its needs to be fair.

good ideas guys. i was wondering how we should go about it.and yes the idea is to spread around the most species.

i like the draft idea. could be fun. but we would have to be all together some night and have a way to do it. a live web cam would be ideal. kets set a date, maybe around xmas?? everyone should be off or around. i know some will be traveling, but what do you think?

the quicker we can do this the sooner the guys can get the fish ready for us.

Just to be clear, are we talking about just doing the draft with fish that too many people want? I am not big on football, so in all honesty it's a bit confusing to me. I think perhaps we should go with a first come system, mixed with a draft for late comers if that makes sense. Again football, and sports in general ain't my bag, so I am definitely confused.

The problem with first come first served is this.

Say I happened to be the first one who knew about this and submitted my request.
Lets say i had 10 open tanks.

I could then select the 10 best looking, rarest, most in demand, most valuable fish available.

Everybody else would get the leftovers, which is not fair.

A draft, with deposit makes it random and fair.

First come first served if only picking one species is OK, but some people want more than one species, and some of us want the same species for certain reasons.

We could say, everybody gets one species by order of request date.

But again, all the staff would get choices first, so is that fair?

By having a draft, it makes it fair amongst staff and members.

Its really simple, if we have 10 people that want fish, we put 10 ping pong balls in a bag, shake up the bag and pull one out, it will have someones name on it.
does not have to be a ping pong ball, can be a piece of paper.
First ball or paper pulled, is first choice.
That person get to choose what single fish species he wants.
Then we do that 9 more times for the first round.

For the second round we repeat again, so people will again have a random chance.

Some of us only want one species, so we may decide if we get the fish we want, to not be in multiple rounds.

The whole idea is to make it random and fair, so everyone has a equal chance of getting the fish they want.

If the breeders have a million of each species, then its really not a issue, everyone can get what they want.

The other idea is to encourage people to raise other fish, thus bringing is more species into the USA.

Otherwise, we all may want the same species.
I'm sure once the shipment gets to ALLENS store, He, JIM, LEXINE and myself will want to change our choices.

At any rate, since the idea is to get more species in, even though 5 of us may want the same species, if i pick a different choice, i will end up getting what i want fairly soon anyway, because someone else will breed it, and i will get fry.

The whole idea is to bring in more species.
So hopefully we don't all want the same things.

IT would also be nice if we could post a picture for each of the available types in this section so people can see what the fish look like.
would really be nice if the breeders could post a pic of the fish they have, since what they have may not look like what we have seen in the USA.

oh good idea. i like the pics idea.

i like the idea of the draft, but dread the thought of not getting what i want. but i know i will be able to get it later through you guys on this site.

also i think some of use have a budget, so if we can species A then we can always afford to get another species and raise them.

I would say you got a great chance of getting 2 of your 4 choices thru the draft.
and if you miss out on your other choices, looks like a couple people will be getting and breeding them, so fry will be forthcoming.

Like myself, no sense in wanting a fish that both Allen and Amor want, because they will breed that fish and get me fry.
So its better I pick a fish nobody else will draft, or at least have back ups.

TR,

I like your idea.....but as I have said before, I'll breed and keep the two species that no one else wants.

Between us fish geeks here on the west coast, we'll all have what we want sooner or later.

Won't there be enough fish coming in from the breeders that two people could get the same species? Let's say two guys want fish A, and it is both their top fish. Vics breed at a pretty high rate/number for the most part, I would assume they would have a group of fry/juvies for each person that wants one. How many does one person get? Is there a cap on the # of fish for a particular species so more of the fish can be spread around, or if three people want the same species, does the person who wins the draft system you are discussing get to take a huge colony and the other two who wanted the species just get the left overs or have to pick another species? I think if the goal is truly to get these species spread around the US it would be smarter to not put all the eggs in one breeder's basket persay. Just a thought.
