i thought i would start a thread about the cost. just clear it up and make sure you know what you are committing to. this way we can try to avoid the "uh ho i dont have enough money cause i thought i only needed 50$ to pitch in." i know most of you guys are very excited about this and are well prepared. i just want thing to go as smoothly as possible.

the last price i saw for the gas cost was 29$.
cost of fish is going to depend on the species. most are 1.5eu which is 2.10$
so for one species you have a starting cost of 60.50$(for 15 fry) for one species.

the last shipping arrangement i heard of is for 100k, i imagine it will cost around 2k. we have 40 bags filled now, weather that changes or not will not affect the cost of the shipping but only the cost of each species. if we change the shipping i will update the numbers.
so the total amount of fish is 450 right now. that comes out to 4.45$ per fish. not to shabby.

last is shipping to your door step. air cargo should be about 50$ for same day to most anywhere in the US. if you choose do to something else it will be lower most likely.

so lets add it up...for one species
60.50(starting cost)
4.45X 15fry (66.75)
50 US shipping
------
177.25 per species at the 1.5 eu cost.

so for me i have 6 species right now. just one at 2.5 eu. thats about 967.75$ dam thats a lot of money.... LOL

cause i did this myself and was like OMG really!!!! which is why i made this post, so others dont get to much sticker shock when the bill comes. also so anyone else can check my math to make sure i am correct. i dont want to be low, but being to high is ok. anyway there it is.

if we can get the shipping to go down to 50kilos then the cost would be cut down, hopefully by half. putting it somewhere around 150$ per species.

i just hope my refund comes through soon, waiting on one more w2. looks like its all going to the shippment.

Dre,

I had asked Big Jim to get some price points going for the members.

Hopefully his math comes out better than yours.

I asked about the 50kgs. I think Marco is going to contact the exporter about this and get back to me. Once I get the final shipping cost I'll do the math here on the forum so everyone will see it.

Today I will ask the exporter for 50 kilos of shipment. But I think the minimum 100 kilos must be.

And today I will write together costs for transport and fish to BigJim.
BigJim I need your mail address.

Thank you + Nice day

Marco

Could be worse.

You could be importing dogs.

Last boxer I imported when I was breeding them cost me upwards of $AU10,000.00!!

Sorry to hijack.

so now with the costs that marco put up i have to change this a little.

going by how big jim did the other cost for gas, per number of species ordered, i cam up with this..36/1750=48.62$ thats for 1250eu *1.4$.

so now the starting cost goes up.

2.10$ X15fry is 31.50$
48.62
4.45X15fry =66.75
50 for US shipping

197$ per species.

ok so maybe i misunderstand what marco was saying.

i went back and reread the post he just made. if he is saying the cost for shipping is 850eu, plus the 250eu for petrol, and the 150eu for the ferry, then my numbers are off.

there would be no 4.45 charge for the shipping.

31.50 for fry
48.62 for shipping petrol, ferry
50 for US shipping

130$ per species. man i need some coffee, am i off my rocker here or what????

I can sense your excitement. Skip the coffee. Take a deep breath, sit back, and if you have some C. frontosa, watch them float about for a bit until Jim posts. Image

Whatever the final price is, we all understand that it won't be cheap. [Which is why I was surprised some of you are ordering fish that are available in the US.] This is one reason I'm in for only one species. Well actually, as much as I love my vics, the real reason is that I tend to be much more ***** back about the "gotta-have" aspect of the hobby.

The money doesn't bother me, as much as the logistics. The guys here at COV in the US and Germany get a pretty big atta-boy for taking this on. I hope we are all still high-five'n when it's all said and done.

Kevin
( Not sure how atta-boys and high-five'n will translate into German)

Dre, I see you game, get us all sticker shocked, then shock us some more, then bring it down so we all breath a sigh of relief

Still not cheap, but closer to what I expected

Hi Kevin,
you are right: we don´t know the meaning of these two words. But it does not matter. They are only two words more that we do not understand. :D

My logic on this was that we have not only an chance for species that are not available in the US, but very pure bloodlines to strengthen those already in US. I am still very new to vics, so I figure why not start with the best. 15 fish for $130 is still cheaper than buying at the LFS, granted they are fry, but I think we all know how fast Vics mature.

That is so true Kevin. I see potential problems everywhere. I actually located a species in Europe not available in the US. It is on the list (yet they have no female to breed so no fry) and could have spawn sent with this shipment, but I am worried about the people who saw them on the list, wanted them and couldn't get them due to the lack of a female.
I have alerted the curator that there is more interest and Marco (whom he knows) is trying to fill that interest. Perhaps he can get multiple spawns in next few months.

It seems I may have to wait for Anton to carry them in with the other fish going to the gas station.
