Just as the case was for me.....

The order was pre-order and was told i needed the $$ in advance to aide in covering ship costs and/ inspections...etc.

Just didnt know if it was out of line or anything and im not accusing so, i just have never been a part of this type of shipment so i guess i still have the "blinders" on to this type of situation. 8)

I thought he was refering the the order Deadman mentioned??

In this order which we just completed we never payed for everything at once. Which was nice ;)

I actually look at this situation as a "cooperative" type of set up; Not for profit. Everybody benefited who was involved. Yes, Jim and Allen went the extra mile, but this is what it took to get people involved.

Every commercial venture I spoke with for years about importing Victorians from Europe said there is no profit in Victorians, so they would not make the investment. I was able to get German Albino Eureka peacocks, Letrinops sp. "deep orange" brought in as well, but no Victorians.
Now that this shipment has attracted some interest, it seems that some wholesalers are putting a price on it.

I think he is talking about the shipment from KMX.

a few stray fish? this shippment was great compared to the others i got from europe { the czech republic} all species in the same bags, i mean two or three species combined, they came in very small and it took about 10 months to seperate the species and then most were hybrids.

There are a few people interested but yes, very little profit.
They will never be able to compete with mbuna because of victorian females lack of color compared mbuna.
That was a part of the problem with Aulonocara species (peacocks) the females are silver, so they can't be sold.

The hybrid OB mbuna x peacock changed all that, so now its easier to move peacocks, which means dealers and LFS can move them.
With many VICS not only are the females plain, so are the non dominant males. That means no sales, so they just sit.
A dealer won't give up space to a fish that will just sit, when they can stock it with more colorful fish like electric yellows, OB peacocks, red zebras, auratus etc.

The bulk of the industry has very little interest in Victorians because there is little to no profit. By coming at people with a conservation slant we can get a niche market going and get conservation minded people interested, but doubtful they will ever be money makers for any dealers.

I agree with everything you said, except the part about the hybrid OB peacocks. They are a crappy fish if you ever breed them. Most of the spawn is as unsellable as female peacocks due to inconsistencies in the spawn, and most females are even more drab and washed out; they do not breed true. About 20 to 30 percent of the spawn has any potential for sale in my experience. The rest are so ugly, and plain, plus it takes a long time to see the fishes potential, it can not be worth the trouble of commercial breeders. I think the high prices these fish get are why they even remain in the hobby. The day the price drops, they will disappear because of the difficulties in consistency and time issues of production. Same with the firefish and dragon's blood.

Now I can say this was a complete success. Me received his fish yesterday with no DOA's. We had some problems at the airport. After 3 hours we got them shipped out to me. Now let the fun begin. Let's keep people updated on all our new fish. Let this be the place where people go to find out info on Victorian cichlids.

Thanks for all of your hard work Marco ! I swear I woke up to hear them singing "können Sie Deutsch sprechen?!" last night :o Unfortunately I had to check the translation before I understood. When I came back they were just singing "uns Essen mitbringen!". I have no idea what this means, but they looked angry :?

This was a deal was with our forum and a European conservation group. Most of the breeders in Europe come from Universities that were studying Victorians.
