He says he's sold out, but has breeders (which aren't for sale, of course).

I won't publicly post it here, but you can do a reverse phone number lookup and get his name.

That could work. I'm also pursuing another angle. I'll report any progress.

Posting any personal information about this guy would be a very bad thing to do. You could find both yourself and this site in a lot of hot water.

You don't need to know who he is to have your images removed. Just follow the procedure in my post above to have his hosting provider remove the images. Speaking from experience, it is best to not even contact the photo thief if all you want is your image removed.

There are legal means to have your copyrighted images removed from his site. It would be prudent to just exercise that avenue. I host and build websites for a living. Trust me, just submit the DMCA takedown notice. When the hosting provider gets it and sees that the images are indeed copyrighted, the owner will be forced to take them down or risk having his site removed from the hosting providers servers.

Just my 2 cents.

No worries, Troy - my interest has nothing to do with the pictures he uses.

Not that I intend (or ever intended) to post anything I should learn about him, but what would be so wrong about doing so? Just for the sake of argument, let's say I were to post his name - "This business is run by John Q. Cichlid." How is that going to get anybody in trouble, assuming I did nothing illegal to obtain the information?

How would this get the website in trouble?

How would it get us in trouble?

Just stating who the owner of the site could get us in trouble? Everyone likes to know who they are dealing with.

In a nutshell, He could bring a civil lawsuit against the poster of his personal information and possibly the owner of the website. Even if what you post is true and accurate and obtained legally. Posting it may not necessarily be illegal (I'm not an attorney) but you can sure be brought into civil court for it. Not worth the risk in my opinion.

Even if he sued and lost, whoever he sued would be out substantial amount of cash in attorney fees.

Besides, seriously, the purpose of anyone trying to ID the guy (at least in this thread) is to expose the "photo thief" and dissuade others from buying from him. That is giving him way to much ammo to drag you into court with. You don't need to ID him to get your photos taken down.

I would urge anyone wanting to "out" the owner of that site to call an attorney and ask the possible outcomes. You will not be pleased with the answers.

So, you're saying that he might have a case (what kind, again?) because of the context in which his name was used, being this thread? That's really thin. Nobody has expressed anything but surprise in this thread about seeing those pictures on his site.

As far as I'm concerned, his using these photos doesn't necessarily have anything to do with his fish. I'm only interested in finding out about him because I want those rock kribs if he's got them (I e-mailed him through the site about them a few times, but only got a response to the first message). I mean, of course it's not cool that he's using them without permission, but we've been provided clear remedy for that. I don't think he deserves summary excommunication from the world of aquaria at this point, and I'd guess nobody else here does, either.

I haven't heard of him and seems like no one else here has either. If you want good clean vics I would go to someone known.
Perhaps someone on here has some for sale or can direct you to someone whom does.

Troy are you a lawyer or something?

Troy is good person and is trying to help us. We are not looking for drama here.

I have been looking for these Rock Kribs for over 3 to 4 years. I would love to find out more about the person who has them. I want to make sure they are a clean line. Who he got his breaders from. I just don't buy fish from anyone anymore. I wish he would use his picture not KevinB pictures.

As for the pictures, Troy has showen us the way to take care of it.

Just to add my 2 cents....the reason I looked up the guy's actual name was for my own knowledge. He seems to have a good selection of fish, and if I decide I want those fish, I want to ask around about this guy. Maybe my friends have bought good fish from John Q. Cichlid in the past, before he started up an internet business, and that's good info to know. I presumed the original poster wanted that same info for the same reason. I don't think there's anything illegal about posting the owner's name of a business which is completely public record. But it might be poor internet etiquette, which is why I didn't post it. Now, I do believe anyone can sue anyone over anything these days, but even so, I don't see any realistic threat of that here. Doesn't hurt to think twice before posting someone's name/info for any reason though.
