hey fern, the FTFFA store is here by my house. i go there quite a bit. but like the site says 25+ hrs. not really that good for 2day or longer shipping. good store but you got to buy bulk to get real savings, like 5lbs of flake at a time.

Here is a link to where I get my heat packs. Click on the link for heat packs on the left hand side of the home page. They have heat packs from 20 hours to 72 hours.

I am buying a case (1k) of bags from them soon. It really sucks when you run out of bags when packing fish.......

Any of yall used the fish sedatives before?

Yeah, bag buddies are the way to go, plus the price is very reasonable.

which size bags are you using fern??

a case will last you a long time. i bought a case of 6x20 almost 2 years ago and still have about 400 left. but when it comes to large operations it goes very quick. when i bagged fish for our clubs annual auction i went through about 400 bags in one day. farmers use large square bottom bags and they go through a bunch.

Those.
I sell a lot of fish and a lot of plants, locally and around the country.... I go through bags fairly quick.
Its embarrassing when you have to use a Tupperware to put a pleco in when you run out of bags  , yes it was s pick up

I was looking at more the hypno or sedate. Something for the larger fish for shipping. I have O2 and I use 3x dose on prime and 1/2 dose of stress coat for my usual shipping and have only had 2 doa's.

oh yea, square bottoms are the way to go with larger fish. they are the best bags in my opinion. but they dont work as well for smaller fish and you need larger box for them too.

You need to watch using water conditioners for shipping. I don't know about prime but amquel depletes the O2 in the water. Bag-buddies is suppose to help with the O2 in the water. Most the importers I know use bag-buddies for shipping large fish. They told me it is too risky to sedate the fish. One little mistake and the fish is doa.

haveing learned a lesson on shipping this is what i now do. 14 in long tube bags, 2 fish per bag since they are under 1 inch. bag buddies, 72 hour heat pack. if they didnt have to go fed ex over night at 110.00 out of pocket, i would have packed 1 fish per bag. i hope this works.

It is a mix I have used for quite a while and never had any issues with. I fill the bag with 1/3 water and 2/3 oxygen so really no worry's on the oxygen running out. For plecos and other heavy waste producers I put in a snippet of poly filter cloth to suck up any ammonia. I also starve the fish for 3 days prior to shipping.
So far I only have 2 DOA fish on my record :D

Ok bag buddies it is if I need to ship some big guys!

My buddy Allen did not come over to help me ship so I did not get any picture. He is coming week so we will have pictures of us packing the fish. I might start a totally new thread on us packing the fish.

I like to make the box to have a tight fit that's why I cut one side at 10&3/8L.

How does this make the fit tighter than cutting all the side panels to the same length?

Also, maybe it's undeserved, maybe not, but I don't have much faith in USPS. Why do you ship with them and what has your general experience been?
