I got these guy's as Hap. sp. fire Uganda. I no now they are not Hap. sp. fire Uganda. Now we need to I.D. them. I have been told one thing already from a reliable Victorian dealer. Now I want to see if I can get some confirmation.

Yes they are the ones from ow. They are 2.5+ in size. The one male is almost 3 inches.

I don't know but these look more and more like a Pundamilia sp. "red flank". Which I would take all day long over the fire reds. One reason is your fish has bars and also three egg spots. Where as most fire red have two spots and no bars. My 2 inch fire red already have full red bodies and no bars. We all know that the Pundamilia group has bars. May if you can find a photo of the red flank and also look to see if OW has them as well maybe you got them by mistake.

i also thought red flank but the head in the first picture to me doesnt reflect that of the nypical pundamilia. but then again.... i do think they are ugandan reds. here is the link to kevins page on th red flank and the ugandan reds with some great links there as well. maybe he could help. im thhinking the striped pattern is a stress pattern.

i thinkg you are in my shoes, you just don't know what you got. I been fighting the fire red vs fulu for a long time now in my area.

I think we need to wait awhile until they get a little bigger, If you look at most of the fire red , the red covers most of the body. Once again you may have a different location. I'm sure OW can find out where the collection spot was.

hard to say. the head looks more like a fire red but the pattern resembles the red flank. also i dont think the number of spots is species related. the shape and color of the spots is but numbers i would say no.

that being said i think most vic haps have the same type of eggspots, circular spots with a transparent ring. a true dummy egg spot.

and how old are they?
the fish might change a little more if it matures more as well.

I hope they are not a crossbred. :( I'll let them grow for awhile and see what happens.

Jim,

If you don't want them, then I will take them. I have a couple of "hybrids/don't have a clue" Vics. I love them all and would be proud to provide them with a new home and long life!

Well it looks like I'm going to grow them out more and see what I have. I really liked the picture comparison. I even did a side by side with Kiven B's Crimsontide and his Red Flank. I'm leaning to Red flank as of now.

I just wanted to say, Is that i think we are on the right track. To have deaman post on a different forum and to have others say the samething to what we are talking about. That is scary!
Even someone was talking about the eggspots as well. I would like to say hats off to this group.
