Xystichromis phytophagus (Christmas fulu) fry. At a very young age the males begin to perform beautiful spawning displays with seemingly electric glowing pastel colors mixed with jet black pelvic fins, and red on their belly. As they mature flame red is painted across the edge of their tail and along their pre-dorsal. The colors are very difficult to photograph because any standard flash camera washes out the color. It took me a long time to get the pic below. Some of the red and green is washed out but otherwise it is a pretty accurate representation. The younger males have darker tones and the purple does not extend as far back, but it will in time ;)

Groups of 5 to 20 are best for breeding. But many prefer to do all male Victorian show tank They do very well in the same water conditions as frontosa, and in fact are very hardy fish.

This line is a year and a half in the making as I was working with an older male who nearly died in shipping and slowed down greatly, only giving me three spawns with two females and then stopping all together. I discontinued one line do to a stripe defect, and was left with the two smallest broods from the one female with correct striping. All the fry from her have bred true with lush horizontal stripes. The males are Amazing. My young buck is a spawning machine, and I have had 20+ spawns from him in the last 9 months from multiple females. The females hold great, and the original Adult male now 5 inches has started to breed again. Very hardy fish ;)

$4 each no haggling no exceptions. This is dirt cheap and I know it, but I would like to see this beautiful line spread wide and far.
