Man these were a fast growing fish that has a bucket for a mouth. Not one of those small Victorian color fire plugs. A very docile lightning fast predator that spends a lot of time in the rocks, but watch out at feeding time.
It is instantly set upon by mbipi, A. latifasciata, H. sp. ruby, Sp. 44, even Malawi C. afras dog them. They recognize them as danger. Don't ask why I know.

The males have done good with large haps and mild large mbuna.
I am not sure what Victorians would mix well with them in a show tank.
I keep the breeding trio in a species only tank at this time.

I have adult males @ nearly six inches and juveniles @ 2". Located in upstate NY.

These two young males are about4+ inches a few months ago.... Now they are almost full grown.

I would consider trades for X. phytophagus adult males, or good old cash. There are some other trades among the German import group I would consider.
These are rare fish friends. The last I saw on a retail online store were like big }<$$>
I would like to hear from a dedicated breeder who wants to help spread these around. I still need to know there is a back up group. These are a Red List, CARES registered line of cichlid.
