Have you try to contact Dave with your picture? He is very easy to work with.

Yes I have gotten in contact with him as tactfully as possible. I'm afraid he has not been in an eager position to help me ID the fish.

Can anyone find a closer match? Can anyone refute that it is a Lutea?

Definitely not Mbipia lutea.
Looks a lot like what Old World Exotics sells as Limax "red chest"

awesome!I was pondering that one too. I'll do more research on the Limax. In the meantime, can we figure out why the adult lost his "red chest"? Its completely gone. It was only present when he was a sub-adult! wierd.

I'm not so sure about the limax....

I see nothing that looks close to my Adult male.

What about Platytaeniodus degeni? They're snail eaters. And Is the Lutea a snail eater? I'm hesitant to rule them out still.

well Marcus Schnell and I are skeptical on the Degani, but Limax does seem to be a good match.

Can anyone disprove the theory that it is a Haplochromis Limax?

The real P. degeni is extremely rare and likely not in the United States.

The H. limax as named by Laif Demason is likely incorrectly identified.
