There are only a few of them pictured, mostly the little ones. A few are starting to show a touch of red on their top fin.
I will try to get some better pics of them.

Well I got all 21 of them moved over into a 55g the other day. I just saw 2 males fighting for dom position so I'm betting I will be getting some spawning going on soon.

Hate to burst your bubble deadman but your fish are Pseudocrenilabrus philander dispersus.
I spent all day with my nose buried in many many old and new fish books, mine are pseudocrenilabrus multicolor victoriae spot on, the males don't get much color other than when in spawning mode and they aren't there yet.

I don't think that's correct, Fern. I raised P M victoria myself a few years ago. In a brightly lit tank with light colored substrate the males were very bright yellow. When I moved them to a tank with black sand and less light they looked very much like deadmans fish. I see deadman has a dark substrate in his pics.

The best book on the victoria is Anton Lomboj's book, The Cichlids of Western Africa. They can be a tempermental fish but all my males were always colored up (see below) not just when breeding. If you have 21 in a 55 gallon tank, I bet they will color up quite nicely. My males were always very tough on the females.

I love those blue lips!

Kevin

very similar fish though. good luck with your group. maybe you could post some clear pictures fern and we can compare and see, mine were sold as multicolor from a reputable dealer, what you may bee seeing is the darkness in the pectral fins they were that way when in a dark enviorment as kevin said when they went they were very light. in the pictures i posted not only was the background black, so was the gravel and the lighting was very dim.

:)
