I bought 10 yala swamp spotbars from Dave's RAF last year. Since the males colored up, the dominant and sub-dominants look just like the picture on Daves site. In the last week, one of the sub-dominants has changed color. He is a dark blue to blacks all over. You can still see his spotbars underneath. I have not been able to get a good look at him since he is hiding from the dominant male.

has anyone every seen anything like this before?

Wish I had a camera to show you.

yea we have talked about this before. i think it is being called a color morph.

it happens with good lines and clean breeding then boom a fish that does not look like the others. and usually the color morph is a dark blue or black color. it seems to be a random occurrence in a lot of victorian strains.

They had pictures of a couple of fish in my new book of this morph. If I remember correctly it was a pn nyererei Python Island, a Punddamilla sp. "red head", and a crimson tide. All these were pictures with the dark morph.

Do you pull the dark color morph so it does not breed?

I would let him have a shot at it. I think most the fry will be normal. I think people will like the chance of having this morph. You know the line is clean that is the most important thing. They take great pride in Texas in keeping lines clean.
