It looks as if Allen and I are going to have to go through my Neochromis rufocaudalis Saa Nane. I have some that do not have the round head. They are getting easy to tell the difference now. We will do the 3 bucket thing. 1 for the Neochromis rufocaudalis Saa Nane, 1 for the Mbipia lutea, and 1 for the ones we are not sure of. The thing is now I have to make room for everyone. I'm glad they have not started spawning.

Axel or Marcos can you post a picture of a female Mbipia lutea.

Look very very carefully. After finding the male Lutea I was sure I saw a couple silver pointy head females, until I pulled him and they went to Rufocaudilis Saa Nane female colors and pattern, after the color and pattern emerged it highlighted the roundness of their head and became clear they were Rufo's. The Lutea have only the slightest extra point to their head.

I think I have a pair as of now. I have 3 more that are smaller I'm watching closely. What I'm going to do is keep the for sure rufocaudalis in that tank and move out anything that is questionable. As the others mature I will be able to tell the difference. If I can't I'll post pictures of them.

It's nice to know that the females will show a bit of color too eventually.

My male gets better looking by the day:
