hi there,

quick question.. does the dorsal fin colour on p. nyererei males ever change? i recently bought a trio of nyererei "makobe island" from a local breeder.. but when i got home, i noticed the male's dorsal fin is blue, with some faint tinges of red depending on the angle.. i thought that this variant is supposed to have a red dorsal fin? maybe it will change once he starts breeding?

I have never had Makoe island, so I can't really help you. I know Lexine got some from Germany, he could help. I also know other people on the forum has them too.

The blue you are seeing is a ressesive gene and as inbreeding continues you should see more of the blue come out of your fish.

I've had several nyererei that were supposedly collected at different locations. None of mine have ever changed color in the dorsal as they matured. The various collection points have different coloration, as you likely already know.

thx for ur help guys,

from what i've seen/read, makobe island nyererei are supposed to have a red dorsal fin.. mine seems to have a blue dorsal fin with some red tinting inbetween the spines.. i'm not sure how much the colour of the dorsal fin can change if at all..

here r some pix of the male nyererei in question:

and one of the females sold to me as nyererei makobe island..

what do u think? did i get ripped off? or am i just too impatient to wait for the colour to come into the dorsal fin?
