Ok, again, forgive my newbie questions. After doing some reading, and asking about, from what I have heard most Vics will do well with hard water, a ph of 7.6-8.4, and a water temp of 78-81 degrees fahrenheit. I just wanted to verify this information with more experienced Victorian fish keepers, instead of just trusting what I have found blindly.

sounds right. since almost all the victorians that are kept these days are long term captive species most tap water will do the trick. the water in your area isnt much diffrent than mine comes out of the tap at 8.0 ph and is rather hard.

they will do fine in the those water parameters. but naturally the lakes in the victorian basin are contain softer water. it is closer to that of south american water parameters.

that being said i have kept vic in my tap water, 7.8 and very hard, to a mix of ro and tap 50-50. i have had good results with both.

Hi
Waters in lake Victoria and surroundings aeras are soft(low carbonate level) with a high pH value( between 7 to 9) it is not the same everywhere varying from muddy sheltered bays(low pH and soft ) to the open water rocky reefs with a more higher pH and a more higher GH. Yur values are fine as haps are very adaptatives fishes.
