I have 7 Lipochromis matumbi hunter's in a 75g tank along with some bristle nose plecos.
my 5 Mpibia Lutea -Makobe Island- need to move out of the 29g tank they are in pretty soon.

Can I put them in the 75g with the hunters?
I know the hunters are egg stealer's and any holding females would be moved as soon as noticed.

Please help me out with this!

Glad I move the lutea where I did! 4 of them got pissed off male colors as soon as they were put in the tank. Only one stayed the dull female color.
Hopefully they will manage to breed in the mixed tank with that ratio........

Looks like both moves are working very very well. The fulus have got the hunters out and about more!

The lutea are doing good as well. The 125g has 3 generations of Copadichromis conophoros mchenga ranging from 5" to 1.5", 6 Fossorochromis rostratus in the 4-5" range (they are only in this tank till they get another inch or 2 larger then they are getting moved) a group of johannis 1-4" temporarily, one black calvus 3" and one syno ocellifer 5". Everyone in the tank is all chase and no bite. The luteas haven't fully gotten their color back but I am sure they will once I ship out the johannis.

I know these species are pretty new to most all of us and most of what we are doing is guesswork but some thoughts would have been appreciated.......

Fern you know about as much as I do. We are fairly new to Vic's and are learning as we go. The only thing I can really tell you is I have moved some yellow labs into some of my more aggressive Vic breeding tank. It has seen to help with the aggression in these tanks.

Never kept these myself but think you have made the right choice.
Its all about availability with mixing vics, some really do not get along with other vics but do real well with malawi haps.

I mainly went with the fact that there are 1" fish in the mixed 125g that are doing fine with very little fin damage.

And I knew I could mix the fulus and hunters without worrying about interbreeding. And as far as I am concerned the hunters can strip the fulus all they want, When I want some some fry from them I will just move the holding females to their own tank to spit.

Oh and the lutea really enjoy zucchini and yellow squash, from time to time I will put some in every tank that has plecos and the luteas wouldn't let the plecos near it and devoured it quickly!

Couldn't get the video in focus well but theres the hunters and fulus (ME's) in the 75g. I am very very pleased with how well the mix is working!
