Jim,

If I'm breathing, then I'm there! I'll have my 7 yr old in tow....get ready for "the energizer bunny".....she never slows down?

I was there at Neptune's several weeks ago, great shop they have....spotless tanks, and very nice fish....but hardly any Vics?

I'll donate some fry for the auction. Are we going to meet at Neptunes? I would also like to go see Jims fish store too.

Just fantastic. If you missed the meeting then you missed out on so much Victorian knowledge.

Great Meeting, Great Friends and best of all...... NOTHING BUT FISH! WOOT!

I had a good time, the drive up was great. Some how Tr6 was 11 miles behind us on the freeway so we stopped and waited for him to catch up. Loads of laughs, between the text messages and the laughing, the drive did not seem long at all. 3.5 hours for us to get there and I have no complaints. '

Of course I had to throw some controversy out at the end about cross breeding different collection points and or variants of species. Chuck handled the question very well. I asked him if he felt cross breeding species variants and or collection points was acceptable.

His answer, not verbatim of course.

Depends on why you are in the hobby, Some are in the hobby to commercialize the fish and for them, cross breeding and such are acceptable. In our circle of conservationists it is not acceptable, our goal is to preserve cichlids in their purest form.

He reiterates, if you plan on breeding victorian fish be sure you use species only tank and do not mix them up.

The most disappointing part of the presentation was when Chuck introduced us to fish that are no more and we would never see again.. :( They were only photos........

Chuck Rambo gets an A++ once again for another awesome presentation.

My 2 cents...

Yes, Chuck Rambo, what a wealth of knowledge and a wonderful presentation, not only about the fish but the history of the Lake too!

Allen did poise a poignant question to Chuck. What amazed me was how natural it is for the fry of two parents to be so different in coloration which I'm sure has caused lot's of frustration/questions among hobbiest and conservators of the fish.

He also emphasized all the line breeding that has gone on to morph/enhance the colors of the fish and specialized food to bring out even more color to the fish. Really had me pondering what some of these species would really look like in the wild?

He also touched on the age old question of hybridization in the wild....and how the spawning habits and food supply/dietary category all way in on dispelling most of the perceived thoughts of hybridization in the wild.

As to the actual keeping of our Victorians.....guys and gals, turn the thermostat down in your tanks, nothing over 80 degrees.

A great evening and really enjoyed meeting TR, Allen, and Big Jim!
