I love the pictures. I have never seen some of those fish before.

Maybe next time you can come down.
And you can bring back fish you can keep in your back yard.

Just got back from Diving in hawaii, got some turtle shots underwater.
So now i can plan the next trip, that people are welcome to attend.

I may be going back to Uruguay in November in which case i can take multiple people.
I may go to Malawi also November, and we may have a spot open.
I also got invited to go to the Amazon with Heiko Bleher in which case there would not be any open slots, also November.

Im leaning towards the Amazon simply for the opportunity to learn from Heiko out in the field, he is a great guy to talk to, as are my other friends in Malawi and Uruguay.
PM me if you are thinking about Malawi or Uruguay, otherwise, more pix will follow after that trip.

How much do the non African trips typically cost? I would so love to just do this once in my life!

You are lucky you are in Florida!
Really you don't have to ever leave your state for some of the best dives in the world.

quick costs.
SCUBA training $300 to $500.
buying dive gear (dont have to purchase)
1. Wetsuit 0 to 200, or 1000's for dry suit if cold water.
2. BCD (floatation device) 200-500.
3. breathing regulator 200-500.
or you can usually rent all gear including wetsuit, fins, bcd, regulator, weights and tank for $40-75 a day.

underwater camera.
disposable's $50.
point and shoot setups can be 200-1000.
a DSLR setup is about 1500 for housing, and about 300-700 each strobe, with most people running 2.
DSLR depends on what camera you want, canon or nikon entry level dslr's run about 800 and they will do well.

flights.
hawaii was about 650 from LAX.
Tanganyika is running about 1600-2200 for zambia or tanzania.
Malawi is running about 2400.
Uruguay is running about 1200.

lodging is another cost. I stayed at Fairmont in Hawaii which is similar to Ritz Carlton, had i stayed longer i'd stayed at something closer to 100/night, but it was a short trip, and i did not mind paying for a few days of luxury, and a private beach.
So 4days/3nights flight/hotel/car cost me $1500, and this was top hotel in Hawaii.
With A standard hotel the cost would have been closer to $900.
not counting dive gear, food, gas, entertainment and such.

lodging etc in Malawi will run about 1400 for 10 days and includes dives.
in Tanganyika it is much more involved with transfers, and i should be able to get people about 2000-2400 for 10 days with dives.
Uruguay is also about 1400, but no dives, though if i go back this year i will schedule 1 day of dives.

Going back to South America Dec. 2.
Flights from LAX are running about 900, id guess from Miami they would be a bit cheaper.
Lodging/Gas/Food will run about 1500.

If you collect the right fish, you can pay for your trip with fish sales.
let me know if you want to go collect some cool cichlids, plecos, cories and tetras that don't need heaters.
