Got here around 4:30 this afternoon. I very glad Columbus never has traffic anything like this place.

It's kind of odd so far. Half the stuff is on the first floor and the other half is on the fourth floor. It's 97 degrees with incredibly high humidity out side. But it's got to be over 80 degrees on the entire fourth floor inside as well. The room with the talks is pretty unbearable. They have a few fans going but still it's hard to sit through an entire presentation sweating.

Most of the tanks in the show room have no fish in them. They have display tanks set up throughout both floors. The tank with Victorians has dead fish and cloudy water.

I hope they get this under control tomorrow. At least my room is cool.

Kevin

They say that no one knew shutting off the air conditioning in the tank room would also shut off the AC in the speaker room (at the opposite end of the same floor). The AC is back on and things are progressing.

The only vics in the show room are P. nyererei, P. orthostoma, H. sp. #44, and X. phtophagus. The 300 gallon new world cichlid display tank is really incredible. The little vic display tank is the only one having trouble. They were netting out the dead fish a few minutes ago. Quite a few nice P. chromogynos in there.

Not much going on at the moment. Most people are in DC doing the tourist thing. The metro (train/subway) system here is top notch and close to the hotel. Since I'm originally from Philly, I've seen most of it quite a few times.

Like most hotels, this one isn't prepared to feed a large group of people some quality food. They ran out of some menu items last night and service was incredibly slow and a bit high priced. I'm guessing most people will eat elsewhere but drink here.

Eh. I don't want to sound too critical about a huge event like this put on by a handful of volunteers working their butts off doing something for the very first time.

Things have smoothed out and are going quite well this evening. Met S10Jimmy today.

I arrived at 5:00. As Kevin's said, pretty thin on Victorians.

Kevin, I've only seen Vics in a pentagon tucked away around a corner. Is this the one you mean?

Yup. The water cleared and showed quite a few species.

One I'll call unknown or suspected hybrid (maybe?)

And one below I believe to be a hybrid

One that is stressed and beaten up

Extra points to anyone that ID's the above stressed fish (I know what it is because I saw it before it was stressed)

It was good to see and get caught up with you again Kevin. I had a great time.

I got to meet s10Jimmy and enjoyed hanging with him. If more people shared his enthusiasm for haplochromines we wouldn't even bother with Tanganyika and Malawi (the lesser lakes  )

Cool to see some nice specimens made it, and great pics as usual Kevin. I am going with Allaudi on the stressed fish just cause of the color. But I am not too confident with my guess since it almost looks like there is some shade on top of the fish where maybe some red may normally be??

Yes. Red in the top half, a horizontal line through the middle and yellow on the bottom.
(And not actually from Lake Victoria)
