hope these are as good as bigjims. so far it looks like i still have only 1 female. hopefully theres another but when vented i thought i only saw one.

funny thing too is that when the female was holding she had male coloration, the white blue color with the black stripes, i guess to ward of the other males.

then this guy. i took several pics but only one came out decent so i thought i would throw him up here instead of making a post with only one pic. i got a pair of them and they are just about spawning size. hard to come by albino brichardi

Actually they look like Albino Neolamprologus pulcher to me, which are actually rarer and better looking than Neolamp. brichardi IMO.

Just found this on animal world dot com:

"Formerly known as Neolamprologus brichardi, the Fairy Cichlid or Brichardi may now be called Neolamprologus pulcher. You may recognize this as the scientific name for another popular cichlid, the Daffodil Cichlid. These two fish are almost identical in appearance. The distinguishing characteristics that help the hobbyist to identify the Fairy Cichlid is the black stripe running from the eye to the gill cover and a yellow spot just above it, which are absent in the Daffodil Cichlid. These two fish are also never found occurring together in the wild, but rather in close vicinity to each other. However color patterning and location are not the only determination of a species, today there is also DNA sequencing.
A recent study published in the journal Molecular Phylogenetics and Evolution has suggested that these two fish are a single species. Because Neolamprologus pulcher is the older of the two scientific names, the rules of scientific nomenclature would make this the correct name for the species.

See the results of the study to learn more about it:

Parallel evolution of facial stripe patterns in the Neolamprologus
brichardi/pulcher species complex endemic to Lake Tanganyika Authors: Nina Duftner, Kristina M. Sefc, Stephan Koblmu ller, Walter Salzburgerf,
Michael Taborsky, Christian Sturmbauer
URL: http://www.kfunigraz.ac.at/zoowww/perso ... chardi.pdf

From a hobbyist's point of view:
Each variant may in the future, still be identified by their common names as either a Fairy Cichlid or a Daffodil Cichlid. This will have more to do with their distinctive coloration and their places of occurrence in Lake Tanganyika, which are in close vicinity to each other but do not overlap. They may both however, become scientifically described as Neolamprologus pulcher."

The White Top are awesome. My females do the same thing they will change to the male colors after they spawn. My dom. females looks like a sud-dom male all the time. The rest of the females stay a blue-purple color when they are not holding.

yea funny thing about the spots jim, the females have them too!!!

once i saw one holding i spent a couple of hours trying to spot a difference b/w them. i could find none. the female colors up just like the male, i mean full white top.

i have never really seen another species female color up so much like this. it really is a treat. first batch had 35 fry so i am hoping for another large brood.

These are a awesome fish. They are one of my best sellers. I have people tell me they got all males. I always say wait a couple of months and some of your males will be holding. Sure enough they will email me back and say I have 2 of my males holding now. If you don't know how to vent these are one of the hardest fish to sex.

I just got 2 of these as well (1m 1f) So is there any way to tell the sex difference without venting? One has more black to the stripes than the other so I'm assuming that's the male?
