Purkle is about 2 years old and Opal is about 1
They each have their own 10g tank, Purkle has 4 stubby cory rejects and Opal has the visually challenged cory rejects, 2 have one eye and one has none. All the cory rejects are from when I bred corys, they did too well for me to want to cull them so they got put with the bettas.

They are amazing fern. I didn't show my niece this time cause I am sure she will want one... actually though maybe I asked last time, but do you know a reputable supplier of high quality beta's? Anyone else? What are prices like for these amazing beauties? Christmas is coming.

I believe they were about $10-$14 each, I can't remember the actual price. Females are a few dollars less. Over on usa the lady with the username Whisper is where I got them both, she has quite a few spawns and probably some ready to go. She is member of the IBC and has truly stunning halfmoon bettas, that's all she breeds.
The parents of each are show grade.
Me, a planted 10g with a male betta is a very very nice looking tank, a few small corys livens it up too. Each tank has a dinky little filter on it (lower flow for the sake of those fins) They really appreciate the plants because it gives them lots of resting spots and the plants really help the water quality, I do water changes on their tanks every 2-3 weeks.

I got Purkle for my boyfriend for his birthday 2 years ago because he has always wanted a purple fish in the house (yes I do all the caring for him) And Opal is mine, the breeder posted a picture of him and I fell in love!!
Bettas are really cool fish and do have quite a bit of personality if you just give them the tank space to show it

Thanks for the info and more great pics fern ! I used to keep betta's in my early teens, and yes always in 10's I was never one to put them in the tiny bowls. I like them, and someday will probably try my hand at breeding them. I think I would just set up a 10 for my niece with a hydro sponge since I have tons of little pumps lying around. Maybe I'd get some plants from you too ;) It may have to wait till after the holidays though since I am tapped out. Actually things were going well till paypal messed up a shipping label and put both my accounts in the negative

If you do a sponge just run it with air. Their massive fins have an issue with too much current. And if you run a HOB you will want a sponge on the intake so their fins dont get sucked in.... found that out the hard way with purkle... that's why his fins look a little shabby, he is still regrowing them from that mishap.
Yes I can ship you some betta friendly plants when your ready, I've moved quite a few different kinds through to see what ones they like the best to lounge on/in.
