I just had to fully gut my 75g planted community tank to move it a whole whopping 6" :? So now the mollys guppys neons and whatnot are getting rehomed and I'm thinking vics. But the substrate is dirt and laterite topped with sand so I'm keeping my plants in it. So my big question is who wont eat my plants? Here is the list of what I'm getting once the US thaws out a bit  ;fulus, PN, Neochromis Rufacadualis and possibly zebra obliqs.

Expect most vics to pick and damage your plants. Most vics are algae/plant eaters. I have tried java fern and it lasted about a week.

Fern,

I have never had any luck keeping any plants with my Vics. Most of them do eat them....or uproot them. Then again, I don't have the best substrate for healthy plants.

All I can say is try. The ZO's I kept in the past never bothered the plants

Fern, congratulations on the new vic plans!

I kept Java fern in my first fulu setup, and it did fine, I think the key is having more than they they know what to do with, and keeping them well fed. I later transferred the java to a convict tank and it was gone in a month.

The tank resembled a jungle before I gutted it but I will redo it so that there's swimming area in the front. I have a good 20-30 different kinds of plants in there. I know they will get nibbled on no mater what I put in there I just don't want them getting demolished.

A few of the plants that are in there (off the top of my head)
southern water nymph
water sprite
giant hygro
java fern
windleves fern
java moss
sword
anubis
crypt
water wisteria
and a whole bunch of others that aren't coming to me now
