well since in know that most african cichlids will destroy plants i have set up a nice SA planted tank. i recently acquired some limnophila aromatica, a really nice Asian plant that has some deep reds in it.

while i was looking for pics i saw a bunch that had plants above water that had a lot of flowers. so i decided to remove the tops and see what happens. i have been greatly rewarded.

check it out...

That looks fantastic! Did the submerged leaves fall off or stay after it grew out of the water?
I ask because I have some of this and I just keep topping it and starting new ones. If it holds its leaves I will let it grow out of the tank!

it held the leaves. most plants will hold them or change them.

my water sprite is growing out too and it leaves broadened up a lot compared to submerged.

if you were to place the whole plant from submerged to above teh water line it would probably melt the leaves. but the plant would still be good.

that actually happens a lot with plants from farms, they grow out of the water a lot then when you buy them or see them in the store they look like they are dying when the leaves are melting away.
