What size tank is recommended for these? I have them in a 110 gallon stock tank right now, but was hoping to put them in a 60 gallon tank 4ft tank. Just don't want to do something stupid so I thought I would ask.

Hi,

the Matumbi hunters come part from Thomas (5) and part from me (5).
I keep them in a tank of 240 litres (about 60 gallons ?) without any problems.
In this tank I have some stones and caves and a big plant (Bolbitis heudelotii) on one of the stones.
My experiences are that the males most swim in the upper part of the tank while the females prefer more the lower part. Breeding females often swim with their mouth to the stones or directly over the sand.

Good luck with them!

Axel

Thanks Axel,

How many do you keep in the 240 liter tank? What is your male to female ratio? The current tank they are in is big but not too deep, they all school loosely together in the same spot near the filter. I recently put some plastic pipes in the tank and some are using them for shelter. I will try to move them to the 60 gallon this week and see how they do. The 60 gallon is very high, so I think it will be perfect. I also got some great rocks recently ! Thanks again, I really like these fish and hope to show them off in the 60 gallon soon !!

Now, after yours are in your place I keep 13 in the same size than yours are.As I had a look to the sexes of your order I had none of the fish which left here. That´s why I have only 2 males and 11 females.
The parents of them also lived in a 60 g tank. But they were 15m/8 f. and everything went well. Also some fry could grow up in that tank without taking out them for some time.

King lucky, over what time span were your 4 spawns?

Axel, do you mean they will not eat the fry in the main tank?

Yes they do. But they are not very interested to chase their fry. Most two or three find a way to survive.

Thanks for clarifying that Axel. I haven't been able to see them very well since I have had them always in this black stock tank, so who knows maybe there are already a few babies swimming in there !

6 months. Last spawn was in april. on a dry spell but I haven't been watching them since I had two large spawns in growout tanks. I have sold them now so I will start watching them again. I have seen any surviving fry in the breeding tank, so either no spawns or no survivers.. No, I strip my female.

Me, Allen got some fry off your while he held them at his place. I think he got about 10 fry from the one spawn. They should be ready to spawn again soon.

oh yea ! I forgot

Sorry, in the middle of moving and though I think I am giving my vics good care, I just haven't had the time to get into them as much as I wish I could. After the move I will have lots of time on my hands devoted to my fish, I am really looking forward to aquascaping for the vics !!!!!!!!!!!!!
