I really like the tank. What species do you have in it?

Very nice, if there is one thing we could use more of on this forum it is full tank shots! Always cool to see the full environment and learn what is working for individuals.

Looks very nice! You may see the need for more small caves later on.... but you may not.
Looks like it would be an easy tank to get a fish out of, minimal stuff would need moved if you have a super stubborn fish

I've got the xanthopteryx in there.

Actually, I'm not really sure yet that this is "working." I don't usually use so few rocks. This whole tank is sort of an experiment. The large sponges on the UGJ-driving powerheads' intakes are the only filtration in the tank, something I've never tried before.

That was/is the idea - not to have to haul 50 rocks out to catch a fish. I'm watching to see how so few rocks will suit them. The females are loving the new digs, but the males' coloring has been a bit muted since I moved them a few days ago.

Thanks, everybody, I really appreciate your praise! (Keep it coming, Lol.)

various PVC fittings in behind the rocks would add lots of caves with little weight to move if you end up needing more

I might be able to fit some back there.. That's what I'll do. I think I'll use ABS, though. It's aquarium safe isn't it?
Thanks!

PVC is just fine and super cheap! CPVC is fine too.
To make it pretty smear silicone on it and toss sand and/or gravel on it, the gravel is more of a stick on but sand you can just throw at it. Personally I rarely bother with pretty  But that method is a very cheap way to make nicer looking caves and mazes than just bare PVC.

I have no plans to add another species to this tank.

Why the open space? Functional or aesthetic preference?

Breeding spot?

I see plenty of spawning sites up front, most fish aren't shy when they get to business I have found.
