As promised, this is the Fulu male that BigJim gave me. All I can say is boy does he have an appetite!
Here he is, this shot taken this morning:
Nice Fulu Pantera, Looks like his color is coming in nicely! What size is he? My large male has a voracious appetite too. He pretty much eats whatever I feed him anytime I feed him, and then looks at me like, where's the rest?!
On a side note I am not sure if my female is holding anymore, she's eating.. but I saw her eat right up to two weeks before, so maybe she's just feeding them.

He's about 2.5 inches...and that's the most color, if you can call that color, that he has exhibited since I got him from Jim. He's very active and usually swims around with my burtoni. Believe it or not, he eats the 3mm pellets I try to feed my larger Vics?
He's a pig....but fun to watch!

I believe 3mm more easily than you may think. My Large male fills his mouth with Hikari which I believe is 5 mm. As for the color, IME they go really quickly from that much color to crazy color. So you may get some nice glimpses soon here!

I just recently tried NLS's 3mm Cichlasoma Formula....they all like it. I have been feeding them another new food, Dainichi's 2mm color supreme and XL pro. It's not as popular with them as the old standby, NLS's Cichlid Formula but alas, it only comes in the 1mm size. I just now gave them their treat for the week, a pureed mixture of garlic and snap peas.....oh boy, damn near took a shower from all the water splashing....I swear they are hitting it before it even touches the water?

He was like the third down on the dom. list. He was a sub. dom. male I was hoping he would have more color by now. I'm sure he will color more.

In all the excitement of looking at Marco's new pics I almost forgot to mention, I am very happy to say I got another fruitful Fulu spawn. This time I stripped as I thought she was holding for awhile, turned out to be 12 little sticks attached to eggs. one was clearly dead on the strip, and one went bad soon after, the next day (yesterday) I lost two more, but the remaining 8 look good, with the possible exception of 1. Anyways not a huge spawn, but it was my first successful fulu strip. I have taken out some of my excess filtration in the breeding tank in hopes of a bigger spawn next time. FYI the 1st spawns alpha is looking wonderful. I sold several locally for much more than I could likely get elsewhere, but still have 6, mostly males Iseefish, so if you come up this spring we can surely work something out. The second spawn is looking wonderful, I have been feeding them almost exclusively Kens veggie flake for the last 2 weeks as an experiment. The veggie flake has grown them surprisingly fast and their color is coming in quicker than their older sibblings did. The females seem to be more clear also with horizontal bars coming in very full already. I haven't gotten a sure count, but it looks to be 15 remaining. I do think their may be a certain level of predation accounting for fry loss, as in both spawns fish simply disappeared overnight.
My plan is to make two colonies out of the three groups, 1 will be with two males from the first group (from a different mother but same father for those that don't know), and as many females as possible from the second group, and the second group will likely be a hodge podge of all the groups put in with the two remaining parents. Should make for some genetic diversity.

Ok so here is a new turn of events in my fulu story. About a week ago I noticed one female in the first spawn holding, and then a few days later another. I had thought I saw one holding a few weeks back, but the bulge was gone within 24 hours. Not this time! They have both been just holding away. Both fish are under two inches, but are 2 of the largest in the group. Probably only second to the alpha. You can see both in one of the pics (circles should make it obvious) and one in another pic (no circle, but I think it's still clear). The washed out pic is of the Alpha. That was the best pic I could get as he is not too cooperative. The other male showing a little color is the sub dominant. There are 6 fish remaining, from this brood, 2 males for sure, 2 females for sure, and two that I was sure were males, but am not so sure. Seems the females color up a bit at times. I noticed the alpha really colored up a couple weeks ago, and realize now why. Now they are all pretty dulled down since the two females(or at least two ready females) are preoccupied. I will try and get some pics of the colors next time Just wanted to add some pics and info.
A little video of a recent spawn. Same male as in the pics above, just showing allot more color. This is about as intense as I have seen him yet, but he was only about 2 inches here, and with every spawn he gets more color.
is the lateral spots a recent development, I haven't seen those on my dom male yet, but I haven't caught him in the act yet either.
Your male is quite stunning!

Thanks Fern
You know those spots caught my attention too I didn't notice them before during his spawns, but I may have just been distracted by his jet black Pelvic fins Deadman has a species profile pic with a male showing one spot fairly clearly in the same region and it seems there was a faint one next to it. So I guess it's not too unusual???? I love them unusual or not. It's so hard to know with Fulu what's the norm and what's not though since so many pics look so different. But you know the individual fish look different all the time! Outside of Vic forums I doubt anyone would believe it is the same fish if I pointed him out right now. He just looks like a slightly colorful female when he's not after some tail (though that is pretty often)
