Subject: Fish stats?
Ok, yall have a place to find pictures of fish but no stats on them.... PH, temp, tanks size, max fish size, diet, temperament, stuff like that on each fish would be mighty helpful to some people..... Think that yall could make something like that?
Subject:
most fish from the lake would have the same requirements for ph, temp and hardness.
diet varies greatly but when it comes to prepared food most high quality foods work well. as with most fish a varied diet of prepared foods is best. tank size is a big key issue. some species are more aggressive than others. the neochromis from what i have been reading need at least 5ft tanks. others like rubys and dayglows can get along in 30"-36" tanks. as with most groups it depends on individual fish. if you have a dom male that is low key than you should be set in a smaller tank. if you have a hyper active dom male you need a larger tank or to get rid of him. i have found that mixing some different species helps. my trio of chromogynos started spawning regularly for me after 2 months of being in a 75g with 2 other species. by themselves in a 55g the male was beating up the females. with lots of pvc caves and clay pots to boot. now he chases the females around but gets cut off by my dom ctyo moori. there is a lot of chasing around but no damage. they work out the aggression on the males and leave the females for spawning. but we could add some more detailed stats. its a work in progress.

We are young and need time. Let us get the import, and the CARES program done before we start something else.
This forum is a working progress and it is going to take time. If someone has the time and wants to volunteer to do this pm Allen. He is the one you will need to talk to to get it started.

I was just thinking it would be helpful, Its not a right this instant thing  Plus it would help the site show up in more searches.... Not that much info out there on most vics.
Subject: Re: Fish stats?
I agree Fern, it would be nice. In fact, that's what I was looking for when I found this site. But I can hardly imagine what it would take to set up such a database, so I can certainly understand how other things will take precedent beforehand.

I think the best way to go about it would be for anyone who knows a whole lot about one vic or another write up some stats and a little bit about the fish and post it somewhere and then one of the mods/admins could put it all into a sticky or something..... No one person should try to tackle this by themselves! Make it a group effort! If I knew more I would help but it would be pitiful if I did
Subject:
it would be like a wikiVICTORIA on the site!!!

KevinB has a nice site that I have used to research on Vics. It doesn't get into PH and temp, but goes into his experince with them. Size, what the sexes look like, what type of feeder, etc....

We could also could ask our friends from Germany if we could copy the info from their http://www.ig-victoriasee-cichliden.de/ web site. This has some great info in it. You just have to use the Google tool bar to translate it.
